Why do some rescues charge higher adoption fees for certain pets?

Adoption fees often reflect the costs incurred by the rescue to prepare the pet for adoption, such as medical treatments, spaying/neutering, or special care requirements. Higher fees can also apply to more desirable breeds to fund the care of less adoptable pets.
